As Christmas approaches, the Amazon SAX3 site is bustling with last-minute holiday shipping activities in Gardena, California. Utilizing a combination of technology and human efforts, they are ensuring timely delivery of hundreds of thousands of items from their same-day facility. With a 24-hour operation, the facility, equivalent to two football fields, accommodates over 500 employees, a hundred seasonal workers, and 500 Amazon robots. The robots, equipped with cameras reading QR codes, enhance efficiency, especially given the 30 percent increase in holiday season volume. Site leader Erik Suek emphasized the robots' role in reducing the physical strain on workers, allowing them to cover orders more efficiently. Even with the technological assistance, human intervention is still necessary for robot maintenance. Brendan Tomlinson, a worker and a father of three, expressed his satisfaction in contributing to the smooth delivery of presents through Amazon services.
