Russia Blindsides China; Establishes Alternative Supply Route To Acquire Its Military Drones – US Report

Russia surprises China by creating an alternative supply route for military drones, circumventing Chinese export restrictions. An American think tank suggests that Moscow discredits China by importing goods under international sanctions, likely using military intelligence channels. The conflict in Ukraine intensifies the reliance on Chinese drones, but China's export restrictions prompt Russia to establish a supply route via a Hong Kong-based trading company. The company, Shandong Buyun Aviation Technology, plans to deliver disassembled drones to Russia through Kazakhstan, evading global sanctions. Russian finance minister Anton Siluanov reveals that "almost all" of Russia's UAVs come from China. Customs records indicate substantial orders, and Russia aims to increase its civilian drone production with a budget exceeding $600 million. Russia previously engaged with Chinese manufacturers to supply drones through an indirect route, possibly involving the ZT-180 model, similar to the Iranian-made Shahed-136. The report suggests Moscow might share Iranian technology with China for drone development. Uncertainty exists about whether Chinese authorities are aware of the drone deliveries to Russia, with the involvement of a Hong Kong intermediary firm. The analysis speculates on potential plans for a drone production site in Russia by the Chinese company Xian Bingo Intelligent Aviation Technology.
