Wontumi,' NPP Chairman in Ashanti Region, summoned to Manhyia Palace for alleged disrespectful remarks about Asantehene.

The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as ‘Wontumi,’ has been called to appear at the Manhyia Palace this afternoon in connection with alleged disrespectful comments he made about the Asantehene. It is reported that Wontumi denied the accusations, and if he attends, he will face the Kumasi Traditional Council. The General Secretary of the NPP announced a press conference in Kumasi without specifying the reason. This follows recent protests by Asante Youth and Market Queens, urging sanctions against Wontumi for his alleged disrespectful remarks. Wontumi is accused of blasphemous comments during the vetting of NPP parliamentary aspirants on January 3, 2024. Today, prominent NPP members may join him at the palace to address the issue, while there are indications that his supporters are planning to demonstrate their backing at the gathering.
